Diabetes: A Common Threat

Food habits we have today, is one of the major factors of influnce of our unhealthy lifestyle. Various diseases are threatening people, irrespective of their age groups. Despite the growth rate of the diseases, diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes still manages to be one of the common but major threats. Diabetes is nothing but a disease caused by the imbalance of glucose level in your blood. A hormone called insulin helps to regulate the glucose level.

Who can get it and how?

Anyone can get it. Yes, people at all age groups can get diabetes so easily, as it is a communicable disease. But, rate of risk is high when you grow older.

Types of diabetes:

There are two types of diabetes in general.

Type 1:

This type of diabetes develops into an individual, when his or her pancreas produces a little or no insulin. In this type, the bodys immune system is attacked and the insulin producing cells are damaged and destroyed. This may lead to heart disease, kidney failure, high blood pressure, stroke, blindness, nerve damage, gum diseases and much more.

Type 2:

Hyperglycemia or type 2 is the most common form of diabetes. This can be hereditary. In this, the pancreas secretes higher level of insulin, which leads to excess glucose level in your blood. Under such conditions, your body does not use insulin properly. This condition is called insulin resistance. Type 2 is also life threatening. It may cost your life, if not diagnosed properly.

Insulin - the game changer:

As we discussed earlier about it, we came to know the importance of the level of insulin in our system. Insulin helps the glucose to enter into the cells. In addition, it not only regulates sugar level in the blood, but also breaks down proteins and fats. Insulin is prescribed by the doctors to the patients in form of injections. These injections are of two varities, disposable and resuable.
